How to write STAR bullets for your resume
On this page
STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action, Result. It’s an interview framework, but it also works great for resume bullets.
The resume version of STAR (short)
You usually don’t need the full story—just enough context to prove impact.
A strong bullet includes:
- Action: what you did
- Method: tools/process
- Result: measurable outcome or business value
Example:
- “Built dbt models and Airflow schedules to replace manual reporting, reducing weekly refresh time from 6 hours to 45 minutes.”
Quick checklist
- start with a strong verb (Built, Designed, Led, Improved)
- include scope (team, scale, stakeholder)
- include outcome (%, $, time, reliability)
